Making Good on Your Marriage Vows through Prayer

To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness or in health, to love and to cherish 'till death do us part.”

Awwww, aren't these some of the sweetest words one could ever utter! Doesn't it just make you think of magic, butterflies, and white picket fences? Fast forward a couple years into the marriage and those feelings and words may mean something totally different!

In today’s society people all too often neglect to keep these precious promises, they made to their beloved spouse. Too many couples seem to be all aboard when things are comfy cozy, but when things get tough people tend to forget all about their vows and head for higher ground. After all - no one anticipated that they’d actually have to make good on their vows, anyway right (lol… I'm just kidding)

The really awesome news is that things do get better with time, prayer and a whole lot of patience.

For me, I can never forget that magical moment when I spoke those words to my beloved husband and we spoke those beloved words to me. My eyes filled with tears and my heart filled with unimaginable joy. But honestly, I didn’t know how much my life would change and how much I’d have to cling tightly to those promises I made before God and man in years to come. Almost immediately things went array and as much as I'd love to tell you we were able to get right back on track, I can't. As a matter of fact through the years, things became progressively worse and let’s just say all hell broke loose. Everything that could go wrong did, but I’ll save the details for another day.

The really awesome news is that things do get better with time, prayer and a whole lot of patience. Through it all though, I’ve become a better woman, wife, and mother in the process. Along the bumpy road, I’ve learned one very powerful thing about being married -- the power of prayer. For me, prayer has always been a release, a place of peace where I could communicate with God and not be judged and a high tower of safety and unchanging love. Today, I can say, I’m grateful to have the opportunity of seeing my prayers being manifested in my own marriage. Below are a couple prayers, I’ve prayed in my quiet moments with God, I pray that your marriage will be blessed by them too.

Our Love-

Heavenly Father, I pray that our love will grow stronger and stronger with each passing day. I pray that we will continuously learn how to nurture that love and that our love will glorify you in every way!

Our Bed-

Heavenly Father, I pray that my husband and I will always desire one another and will not deprive one another of intimacy, passion, and oneness. I pray that we come together frequently and are completely satisfied and engaged with one another. I ask that you never allow us to withhold sexual intimacy regardless of any disagreements we may have.

Our Finances –

Father, I pray that you will show us how to be good stewards over our finances and everything you have entrusted to us. May we never let money divide us and may we use what we have to bring glory to your name, in Jesus name

Our Purpose-

Father God, I pray that you will show us our divine purposes in life and how we are to support one another in accomplishing all that you have called us to do. Let us be gracious and prayerful with each other as we seek You and find what it is we are on earth to do. Never let us view our purposes as conflicting because we know you are not the author of confusion and it is Your will that we be in agreement in all things.

Our Home-

Lord, I pray that our home will be filled with peace and joy; I pray our children will see our marriage as a model for how you ordained marriage to be. I pray that we are always open, honest and authentic with one another, so hat Your name will be glorified in Jesus name, Amen

As wives it is imperative we take time out each day to pray for your marriage. From personal experience, I can assure you it is time well spent and the benefits are beyond words. Marriage is beautiful even the bumpy roads have proven to get smoother and sweeter with God’s grace and unfailing love.
